Biking to Daytona Beach. On March 2nd, a friend and I decided to ride our motorcycles from Scottsdale to
Daytona Beach Florida for Bike Week. We rode our bikes the entire 2,200 miles. It took us 4 days to get there.
Two tips for highway bike riders. After making the trip, I have two tips for motorcycle highway travelers. Going through West Texas this time of year, the ambient air temperature is in the forties. Since we were moving along at speeds in excess of 80 mph

, the wind-chill temperature on our bikes was in the twenties. Since the first thing to get really cold was our fingers, it would have been good to have either really heavy winter gloves, or better yet heated grips. We had neither. So we found a Wal-mart and purchased a bunch of chemical hand warmer packs and slipped them between our gloves and the thin liners we also wear. This got us through Texas.
A safer way to get through the dark. It can be pretty hairy traveling at high speeds on motorcycles at night on dark Interstate highways. Motorcycles just don’t project enough light – even with HID headlights. A safer way to travel at night at Interstate speeds is to find an 18-wheeler, tuck in behind and simply follow it. This is how we traveled the last 200 miles to Daytona. We figured if there was anything in the way, the truck would punch its way through it. Being on motorcycles we could stop way before the truck so we could follow it closely. The truck also acts as a windbreaker which reduces the wind-chill on the bikes (it gets much colder at night brrrrrr) and creates a wind draft which helps pull the bike along giving the bike better gas mileage.
Broadcasting from Daytona. The purpose of the trip was two-fold. First, we wanted to have a contest to select a new Go Daddy Girl. Second, we thought it would be fun to broadcast
Life On Line with Bob Parsons, my weekly radio show Live during Bike Week.
The Broken Spoke. On Wednesday, March 7, we broadcasted
LIVE from the
Broken Spoke Saloon, and during the show, selected the winner of “Go Daddy Girl – Daytona Beach 2007”.
Go Daddy Girl – Daytona Beach 2007. The selection process was difficult, as many gorgeous, intelligent and attractive women entered the contest. Nima Jones and I made the final selection. I’m pleased to tell you that
“Go Daddy Girl – Daytona Beach 2007” is Lara H. of Cleveland Ohio.
Go Daddy Girl - Scottsdale 2007. Tomorrow marks the first day of
Arizona Bike Week. We decided this would be a perfect time to hold another Go Daddy Girl Contest. The contest will be held at
Hacienda Harley-Davidson’s annual “Kick-Start” party and will get under way at 8 PM PDT. Any female interested in entering should get there before 7 PM and fill out the brief entry form. I’m expecting a huge turnout and a lot of fun.
Meet our Go Daddy Girl team. Most of our Go Daddy Girl team will be at the "Kick-Start" party. This includes
Candice Michelle, Harley drag racer
Valerie Thompson and our
Daytona winner Lara H.
Danica Patrick will not be there as she is in Florida getting ready for her
first race of the year in Homestead on Saturday.
Check out the Go Daddy Chopper. The bike built specifically for Go Daddy by
Orange Country Choppers will be on stage during the "Kickstart" party at
Hacienda Harley Davidson. To check out the bike online,
click here and go to the 6th page of "On Air" theme choppers. It's worth a look.
We’re also going to do it in Sturgis! We plan to hold a similar contest during the
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August. We will hold the contests and select the winners during our
Life Online with Bob Parsons video casts. Winners of the Go Daddy Girl contests receive cash prizes, will appear on our Web site and have a very good chance of appearing in our TV commercials.
The Go Daddy Ride To Sturgis? We are also talking about having a Go Daddy motorcycle ride to Sturgis for all of those bikers interested and able to participate. If you would be interested in joining us in our ride – if we in fact put it together - please tell me so with a post here.
Life On Line goes video! Finally and most exciting:
Life On Line is going from audio to video. Our weekly radio podcast will continue until the end of May. From then on we plan a strictly video pod cast.
Check out my first videocast. During yesterday’s broadcast of Life Online, we released our first brief video podcast. It features highlights filmed during our Go Daddy Girl contest in Daytona. Too see that clip
please click here. Our videocast plans. We plan on also providing video highlights of our tomorrow's contest during the
Life On Line broadcast next week, and each and every week clips of what’s going on in my world, until we go strictly video in June.
Until next time.
