We have four new commercials. I am proud to provide you with an early look at our new commercials.
Two of the commercials were filmed using The Go Daddy Girl. These will appear on male-oriented networks. The other two will appear on all the other networks. The new ads are called:
1. Candice and Bob (feature yours truly and The Go Daddy Girl).
2. Caterer.
3. Crazy DJ.
4. Rodeo (features The Go Daddy Girl and PBR star Spud Whitman).
Go Daddy Productions is born! As you might already know, we parted with The AdStore in March (our contract ran out, we didn’t fire them) and have since formed our own advertising/production division. We call our new division, “Go Daddy Productions.”
Why Go Daddy parted with The AdStore. There’s been quite a bit of dialogue about why we would part ways with The AdStore. In the ensuing coverage, individuals from The AdStore have been quoted as saying “We were hurt by their decision” and, “we felt we helped put Go Daddy on the map.”
How our Super Bowl commercial came to be. I personally understand them feeling “hurt.” They no longer enjoy the monthly revenue from our account. The comment that they helped put us on the map also has some validity. However, it’s important to note that the key word in that statement is “helped.” What happened with the Super Bowl ad, that they helped create, and then produced, was the result of:
• My decision to advertise on the Super Bowl to begin with. We signed with The AdStore before we even discussed the possibility of doing this. In fact, I was the subject of frequent and heavy criticism when I first made the decision to buy a spot on the Super Bowl. This was very similar to the criticism I received because of my decision to part with The AdStore.
• The decision to use an attractive, well endowed woman, with the Go Daddy logo placed acrossed her tee shirt was mine entirely. In fact, The AdStore initially resisted the decision and we almost left the agency because of it.
• The idea to use a parody of a censorship hearing as the basis for our Super Bowl ad was conceived entirely by Paul Capelli, the owner of The AdStore. This idea was presented to us along with four others. We chose the censorship parody idea.
• The choice of talent was done by both us and The AdStore.
• The AdStore chose the venue to film the commercial, the producer and the director. They did a marvelous job in this regard.
• It was the NFL and Fox who made our Super Bowl commercial a classic that will be talked about forever. This happened when they decided after the first showing of the commercial in the first quarter to censor it and not allow the second airing of the commercial, scheduled to run in the 4th quarter.
• Fate was responsible for the decision made by the NFL and Fox. Contrary to suggestions made by my many readers and friends of mine, I did not anticipate this happening. I simply don’t have that foresight.
I would recommend The AdStore to others. So there you have it, The AdStore did a good job for us. I was very pleased with their work, and would not hesitate to recommend their services to others. However, when it comes to commercials produced on a regular schedule for regular television showings, our Go Daddy Productions division has proven that it will do a better job.
Go Daddy has a history of doing things for itself. Go Daddy’s history is one of doing everything it possibly can for itself. We develop the lion’s share of the technology we sell and use for ourselves, we buy all of our advertising – both online and (now) offline, we do all our own staffing and provide all of our own customer support. We believe that no one looks out for us better than we do. So it only follows that we needed to produce our own television advertising.
