Ok sorry I have to do this. i just read somrthing that has been bugging me. The "looting thing" the looting started before the storm ended. they were not looting for survival. they were not looting to protest the governments delayed reaction. you don't starve in eight hours. thats how long the storm lasted. you don't need new sneakers in eight hours. i felt sorry for the ones that didn't go grocery shopping before the storm . i did really. but if you worked for fema driving and 18 wheeler full of food , and you heard about the looting , Ok even for "survival" , and you heard people were shooting at the cops for "survival" ,and you didn't have a gun for your "survival" would you be the first to go. Or would you wait for the military. ummm?
ok thats it i swear hope i didn't offend anyone .not my purpose i'm just statin g facts as i know them to be.
As a Hurricane Katrina victim , I would have to say this has been the worst and greastest experience of my life. Me and my family lost so much and now we live day to day uncertain of where we'll migrate next. I've learned to charish what you have while you have it, don't waste time sitting around. Spend time with those closest to you while you can. They may not pass on tomorrow, but they may not be in you life tomorrow. Your cell phone isn't going to work, There will be no u-hauls to get your belongings that survived. There will be no gas cans at wal-mart for 2 states. Gas stations won't even be there anymore. Text messaging worked.. internet things like that. the day before we knew it would hit us , my friend Jesse told me not to listen to the hype about the storm, and that he would see me tomorrow ..then he walked away and said "Holla Back"! I haven't seen or heard from him sense then. I've learn how dependent we are on electricity...bbq grills are then best things ever invented ...saved my life! i've learned how dependant we are on other people. If one person doesn't do their job ... it's over.I couldn't believe the amount of people just waiting around for help! What if we were all in that situation....Who's going to come and help? No body. So help your neighbors. For those who had to wait for help " I feel ya!" It sucks to have to wait for somebody else to come help you. We need to be more prepared to help ourselves. Lease electricity! hand held can openers. wind up watches. hell wind up cars...electric ones ain't gonna help.you won't have power...generator you say ..there's no gas stations blew away. Your uncle came to help but he didn't bring enough gas now he's stuck to. You'll have mobs of people at wal-mart waiting for the next shipment of supplies. Who's going to stop them from taking that truck..the cops left with their families. ok I'll stop rambling but this is the best advise you'll ever get!
Although we are a nonprofit 501(c)3, I have to agree with everyone who has stated that we need to be careful who we donate money to.
There are scammers on the net; many state they are 501(c)3 but when searching the Secretary of State web site for their certificate of incorporation, they are not listed. I knew one who was collecting for the tsunami victims but for all we know, they were the "tsunami victims" in their own little minds.
I believe what we put out is what we get back and it is sickening to me that there are a few bad apples out there that are ruining the whole bushel.
We are not the type of nonprofit that people would readily invest in because there is no return on your investment. We spend more than we could ever bring in but this is okay with me because it is typically my own money and it goes directly to the children we serve. Maybe some day a director will come in and show us how to make ends meet but honestly, I prefer being in the trenches with the kids and trying to make the system accountable for the "care" children receive while in group type foster care.
Abuse is rampant in these facilities and while I am all for those who make a profit in their businesses, I just do not think it is right to make a profit off the backs of little kids. Especially when it is visible to the public that the children are not receiving the most basic of needs, like shoes and clothes, a warm shower, and fully cooked food. While one of these places has 6 Million in the bank! When we are sitting on the front porch gumming our food, these children will be running our country and what we are doing to them, or allowing to be done to them, will provide plenty of psychos for the future.
I hope sincerely that people are considering the donation of their cars to the gulf region and not only thinking about money. These people were pounded and their cars were not spared. Please consider this excellent option as it also a deduction. god bless ya, Brian
The above link is not to our public nonprofit group. We are not asking for 100,000.00, or even 1.00; what we need are specifics and AmeriCare may be very active with the Katrina Victims but the Rita victims have all but been forgotten.
We have families in the coastal area who need help. They cannot drive to the "pod" set up at the Firehouse because they have no gasoline. Even if there was gasoline, they could not afford to purchase it.
I do not understand why the media has been so slow to respond. I have my own opinions, but we know about opinions.
The fact is, many people in the Port Arthur, Silsbee, Port Neches, and other coastal areas HAD to evacuate and now many of them are stuck, away from home. They are not allowed to go home, if their home is still standing due to all the power lines, lack of water, and natural gas leaks. The Mayor's home in Port Arthur burned to the ground at 2 a.m. on 8/25 and he is not taking any chances. There is no medical care in Port Arthur.
My niece and her seven children are literally stranded at the hotel her dad's company set up for them to stay until this resolves itself. Imagine, stuck in a hotel room with mom, dad, and SEVEN children with the eldest being 10 years old. They cannot get much needed medicine, because, "you have to see your doctor first." Her doctor is not available, the hospital is not available, they are living from moment to moment. At last conversation, they had 13.00 and were still waiting on the $1,000.00 check from FEMA.
They won't be looking for topless bars and tattoos either, as many of the Katrina victims did when we gave them $2,000.00.
Everything is about Katrina but no one is really speaking out for the families of Rita. The AP article that ended up on an Israel paper as well as Newsweek, stating they are wealthier than the Katrina victims is hogwash! I know more poor people in that town than anyone else. It is a refinery town!
We know the people, we know people who know people in other towns, one is a Sgt. in the police force, his sister, his mother (all displaced), but we are willing to carry SUPPLIES, as some are already listed. The dispatcher told us what is specifically needed.
My garage will hold boxes, then we simply need someone with a truck to haul the boxes into the city areas that only the police, sister, mother, and other natives of the area are aware of. We are not asking for ANYTHING for ourselves or our families. We are here, others are not. We know the people, others do not. We WILL not only put these items into the hands of the people who need them, we will hand them the items. Gas Cards and Grocery Cards are also a good idea. I personally purchased $200.00 worth of them. -That isn't much but it will help 8 people either buy $25.00 worth of groceries or a tank of gas.
We had not planned to do this through our non-profit, but this may be necessary if anyone ever donates anything.
The Miami Herald reported that FEMA signed a charter deal to pay Carnival Corporation $192 million plus up to $44 million in reimbursements for fuel and other costs to charter three ships for six months (26 weeks). This is an example of the government aiding and abetting Carnival in the type of profiteering that most people find offensive.
A one week Carnival cruise from Miami to the Caribbean was $729 per person plus taxes for a couple sharing a cabin on a cruise scheduled to depart this summer. According to an article published by CNN on 9/3/05, the three Carnival ships chartered by FEMA have a maximum capacity of 7,012 passengers.
Ship Maximum Capacity Ecstasy 2,606 passengers Sensation 2,606 passengers Holiday 1,800 passengers TOTAL 7,012 passengers
Total Cruise Fares = 26 weeks x $729 per week x 7,012 passengers = $132,905,448
FEMA has agreed to pay up to $236 million to charter three ships that would have generated less than $133 million in cruise fares if Carnival had fully booked those ships directly with passengers for 26 consecutive one week cruises to the Caribbean. The charter deal, which generates a $103 million windfall for Carnival, is offensive. This is another example of FEMA incompetence, and corporate greed by a cruise ship company.
According to recent news reports, the three ships remain empty because people do not want to move from shelters to live on the ships! I encourage you to write about this issue until Carnival agrees to rescind the charter deal with FEMA.
Your math is almost correct. However, that is not how cruiselines make their main income. This is accomplished by selling guests Alcohol, pictures, shore excursions, etc. etc. etc..
I'd like to suggest looking at the overall picture from a better vantage point.
Oil and the internet are strategic (resource and infrastructure). Oil is obvious, the internet via 10GSuperMAN is not.
The 500million (to 1B) needed for a Cost-to-Cost National Carrier Support Backbone (approching 1 Tbs) would provide some startling benefits.
10GSuperMAN (10 Gbps Super Metropolitan Area Networks) can push Thousands of live video feeds (in any metro area) to the White House, US Congress, Supreme Court, Fema, National Guards, Joint Chiefs, OSD (Office of Secretary of Defense Crisis Management Center), DOJ, HJS, State Capital, County and Metro Command and Support Centers without even breaking into a sweat (Less than 2% Utilization in Strategic National Carrier Corridors).
In addition, Tens of Thousands of Video Conferences, Phone Calls, Voice and emails to and from every governmental, public, private group and individual that wants help *OR*** want to help.
Some might say that the Communication between Texas, Florida and the White House is very good and that 10GSuperMAN deployment in those states is not needed.
Others might reply that such a deployment will help enhance State to Federal Capital Communications and thus make them more effective and help better guarantee civil rights and liberties.
The problem of security and surveillance runs far deeper the any state's governor being willing (and able) To call up the OSD (Office of the Secretary of Defense) Crisis Management Center and yelling HELLLLLLP !!!!!!!! HLS needs to look a little farther than searching granny’s shoes at the airport.
In my post called "US Concentration Camp Atrocities" at http://www.10GSUperMAN.blogspot.com “Flame Thrower Solutions” are discussed.
Why such a volitile title for post ? Because any country (or administration) trying to spread democracy around the world to defeat terrorists can ill afford to have the entrie world see reporters crying on live television for god's mercy.
Specifically Forced detention (in New Orleans Civic Buildings) without food, water, sanitation, nor medical aid and perpetration of Atrocities (Rapes and Murders) on citizens despite some of the bravest efforts ever seen in this country by New Orleans and this country's best.
At what what point can the Constitution and Bill of Rights be suspended for Governments (Federal, State and Local) to enforce their will in ways that result in Confinement, Rape and Murder for the entire world to see live on television?
At first blush this would seem to have to do with telecommunications and disaster recovery. However, it is impossible to have effective emergency response and prepardness without communications at all levels.
In simple financial is a 1B investment in a 10Gsuperman National Backbone better than what 911, two wars and katrina have and will cost ?
Sorry for this harshly frank picture on but it is sickening to watch Americans suffer.
Read the Preamble to our Constitution. Our federal government is supposed to "promote the general welfare" among other duties which our elected officials swear to carry out. We pay taxes for such emergencies. If our elected officials, especially at the federal level, fail to take responsibility for same, they should be impeached for treason simple. To pay taxes TWICE to the Federal government AND to the Red Cross or other "voluntary organizations" means that we are not paying attention to the contract that our elected officials have agreed to fulfill. Failing impeachment, they should be turned out of office AND THEN arrested and tried for malfeasance of duty, much as the cops in New Orleans who abandoned their posts are being prosecuted. Don't pay taxes twice!
This story sounds so familiar. I am a risk taker who has started many companies. I've had moderate success but alot more failures until recently. I'm now a successful businesswoman. During the "I dont know if this will work" phase, I tried everything to get my business off the ground. I failed quickly and frequently but I had a passion for what I was doing, so I modified my plan and moved forward for years. No one believed in me or my plans. I was ridiculed and lauged at by many. I was lonely but determined. It never crossed my mind to give up. I read many books for inspiration. I kept working 65-75 hours a week. I joined networking groups for support and aligned myself with powerful mentors. I learned to ask questions. I am a master at co-op advertising. I've tried every type of marketing imaginable. When success finally came, the naysayers where blown away. I made my business work after 18 months and walking on the edge of bankruptcy. I held a FT job for half the time and was involuntarily unemployed the other half. At one point, I was homeless. Homelessness was not enough to deter me. Of course, at that point, everyone around me thought I was crazy. I could always see my dream. I always believed. I did not marry it....I did not inherit it....I made it!!
I thought this statement in your Radio Go Daddy email was interesting:
The Breakdown of Social Order in New Orleans. Experts claim looting and violence are overstated. Is the media partly to blame for creating this "misperception"?
Personally, I think the misperception is on the side of the public. It's not that the media is giving us misinformation or sensationalizing the facts. The problem is the constant barrage - every channel, station and publication is reporting the same story over and over and over. Journalism just isn't about being original or reporting the facts anymore. All about the ratings and beating the competition...or being like the competition. Aside from a few rogue outfits like Google's Current TV - scouring the Internet for blogs and personal account Web sites is about the only way to cut through the clutter and get a real sense of what's going on in the world. Hopefully the big networks and cable companies will catch on to the fact that they are boring their audience to death.
I would like to convey my condolences to all the people how lost a loved one or friend during the hurricane Katrine, and hope that the world would return some of the favors and chivalry acts that USA granted the world by aiding the victims, and for that the Kuwaiti people and government has donated 500 Million US$ worth of aid, and that is just a small thank you for 1991 and 2003.
I am a Tulane University student in New Orleans. Obviously, this Hurricane has affected me more than the average college kid. My friends and I tutored at an elementary school, and the students we worked with are just one of the many deep concerns I have.
At school, I was also a volunteer EMT with Tulane EMS. I was supposed to go abroad this year to London School of Economics, but I decided to forego the trip and stay in the States to work on helping New Orleans. Even now, my EMT friends are down there working to evacuate people from New Orleans and treat them in Baton Rouge. Whenever they can get through (which isn't often), I hear the truth of the situation, and it isn't good.
My friends and I have started a non-profit which is focused on organizing the national college community. We have each been in contact with hundreds of students who want to help volunteer their time when it is possible, and want to get their schools involved.
My question for you is, how can we differentiate a new, small non profit from one of the scams that you speak of. We obviously have strong ties to the city and have a specific plan of action for the money donated (see website), but we aren't the Red Cross which is nationally known.
We have been in contact with dozens of school newspapers, interviewing and that sort of thing, but I would really like to hear your suggestions.
PEOPLE ARE STILL DYING Last night a significant number of trapped people wrote messages via computer for help finding the coast guard because they did not know where to look. Absolutely nooone was able to help them. These people need help from pro-active people like you to help field these calls especially at night. This situation is caused by an unusual set of cirmustances which has left survivors with internet access but no phone access
This situation is an absolute outrage and the president needs to be notified.
As I understand the situation, trapped people were completely without electricity. This would make it impossible for them to be sending computer messages to anyone.
Back in January, I thanked you for your generosity to the tsunami victims. Once again, I want to thank you for your generosity. As I have family in New Orleans, this one hits much closer to home for me, and what you've done means that much more.
I also want to thank you for informing people about how to donate "safely". Unfortunately, there will be some total lowlife (or many of them) who will try like hell to scam people into donating to a non-existent charity. It's important that people know how to go about donating to trustworthy organizations. You performed a big service with your donation, and you may have performed an even bigger service with the information you provided.
Great Job on the donation Bob and all at GoDaddy!!! This is huge move on your part and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated. Makes it a pleasure to be a partner with your company. Keep up the great efforts.

First of all, as a resident of New Orleans, I deeply thank you so much for your generous donation to our relief efforts. Although my home was spared, my father, a vietnam veteran, and his wife endured a terrible ordeal stranded by flood waters in his home, eventually swimming on Thursday to I-10's elevated expressway. He lost everything, but they are safe now, and the way I see it, Go Daddy just gave my dad some money to help him out. From the depths of my heart, thank you.
Second of all, as a longtime client of Go Daddy, thank you for providing consistent, reliable service to your customers. One of our clients in heavy industry based in New Orleans lost all their email communications with their employees, staff as well as clients because their email servers in their offices were underwater. They contacted us (we are temporarily operating out of Memphis, TN) desperate for a way to restore their email. I immediately told them to go to Go Daddy, purchase your email service and gave them the rest of the steps to take. Less than 12 hours later the entire company was communicating once again via email.
I just don't know what else to say, except to say again: thank you.

Hello Bob, We have included the cities needing help on our website @ http://www.edirection.com/ . We hope it will be beneficial for affected users. We will be making all listings in these cities featured automatically and for FREE till the situation out there becomes stable.
Please help us spread the word in your website or home page.
Well, it looks like I am not the only one feeling nudged to set up a website and help. By the end of today, I hope that www.housingrelief.us will be active. It's a listing tool for people to list available housing (whether house, apt, room in a house, hooked up RV, etc) for victims of Katrina, all over the USA. This housing is meant to be temporary and free to victims to help them get back on their feet. Of course, housing is needed so if you even have a room available, or can crowd your family a little as we are doing, please consider listing.
Thank you, Bob. I knew that you would respond and you have not let us down. I am proud (again) to be a customer of Go Daddy.

Wow, this makes me even proud to be doing business with GoDaddy. Your efforts I hope will inspire people to donate anything they can afford. The federal government fell short on providing a rapid response. They knew this was coming they knew the scenarios and should have prepared for the worst it doesn't take 5 days to provide relief 1000s of miles away. People are dying and the relief is unsatisfactory, people are not going to return to New Orleans, Houston needs relief support also because there is basically no life in New Orleans. I don't wanna get to into this as it touches home more than you can believe but i would like to thank you although i could only afford a 250$ donation it was the most i could give and pay my bills. I do realize that thats 1/1000th of what you guys are paying but i figure if 1000 people follow we can match it. Thanks again
As an employee of Godaddy, it is so awesome to see our leader step up to the plate and use the money that we helped him earn and donate it to the people who really need it right now. It makes me damn proud to work here! Your generosity is outstanding! You are an excellent boss and even a better humanitarian. Thank you for keeping it REAL Bob!!
I've been a Go Daddy customer for a few years now with several different domains. Seeing your generosity to help out the families affected by Hurricane Katrina makes me that much happier to be a customer!
ok thats it i swear hope i didn't offend anyone .not my purpose i'm just statin g facts as i know them to be.
